A recent Open Collector
annoucement describes a new free hardware design for an ARM9 based
single board computer (SBC) that runs Linux. The ECB_AT91 board is based
on the Atmel AT91RM9200 processor, running at 180MHz, includes 64MB of
SDRAM, 2MB of flash, a 10/100 ethernet port, USB 2.0 host port, and two
serial ports. It also includes an SD slot, I2C port, 4 SPI pins, and
JTAG support. The hardware design, including schematics, PCB layouts,
and artwork, is licensed under the GNU GPL,
which allows anyone to download, use, or modify the design or even make
their own derivative works from it for any reason. The board runs the
Debian GNU/Linux OS and is supported by the
Open Embedded project
development environment. If
you're not interested in building the board yourself, you can also buy assembled and tested units.
The board manufacturer is also planning to offer a complete robot based
on the board. (If we can get our hands on one of these, expect a review)
